  • In the year 37 the Roman Senate annuls Tiberius’s will. The senate goes on to proclaim that Caligula is emperor.
  • In 1229 Frederick II will declare himself King of Jerusalem. This takes place during the 6th crusade.
  • In 1438 Albert II of Habsburg becomes the newest King of Germany.
  • In 1766, during the American Revolution, the British Parliament repeals the Stamp Act from a prior time.
  • In 1793, the first republican state in Germany, the Republic of Mainz, is declared by Andreas Joseph Hofmann.
  • In 1865 during the American Civil War: The Congress of the Confederate States of America adjourns for the very last time.
  • In 1913, King George I of Greece is assassinated. It’s not likely that he had a life insurance policy either.
  • In 1922, in India, Gandhi is sentenced to 6 years in prison for civil disobedience.
  • In 1937  Spanish Republicans manage to defeat the Italians. This is all at the Battle of Guadalajara.
  • In 1940 on this day, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini meet at the Brenner Pass in the Alps.
  • In 1945, over 1,2oo American bombers attack Berlin, Germany during WW2.
  • 1946 – Diplomatic relations between Switzerland and the Soviet Union are established
