Yury Zhirkov has revealed he will quit Chelsea at the end of the season if he can’t force his way into first team contention.
The £18million Russian international has been largely anonymous since joining from CSKA Moscow in 2009, and has just returned from three months out with an Achilles injury.
The 27 year old is technically a wing back, but with Chelsea playing a 4 defenders and narrow midfield diamond formation has failed to find a place in the team since joining.
Speaking to the Sun, Zhirkov said, “My only target at the moment is to get back into the main Chelsea team.”
“If I’m successful with that, all the other issues will resolve themselves.
“But if I fail to achieve that between now and the summer, I will start thinking of other possibilities.”
