After seeing their hopes of a quadruple shattered in just under two weeks, Arsenal fans would be forgiven for giving up on their season but with the Premier League all to play for, boss Arsene Wenger still believes they can win the league.
Arsenal have been beaten in the Carling Cup final following a last minute defensive lapse against Birmingham, and have since been knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona and the FA Cup by Manchester United.
With their hopes of winning a first trophy since 2004 looking good two weeks ago. Arsenal now just have the league left.
Arsenal sit three points behind United but have a game in hand, and still have to host the league leaders at the Emirates before the season is up.
The league is in their hands, and if they win their remaining nine games they are guaranteed to be crowned Champions.
“It will strengthen our resolve at home,” said Wenger when asked about the title race.
“The Manchester United game [in the Premier League] is only important if we win our games before that.
“I am convinced that if that game is decisive, we have a good chance to do it at home.
“Before that, it’s important we respond very quickly. We go to West Brom on Saturday, we will see the first signs of how we recover.”
Wenger accepts that Arsenals mental strength will be tested in the coming weeks, but backs his players to pull through.
He added, “I believe that we can do it. It is a good test for us now, to show that we can regroup, show our mental strength and respond quickly.
“We have a week without a midweek game, that is the first time for a long time.
“You will find out. We will have to [answer] this type of question in the next few weeks. We have to show that we have an answer to that.
“We are used to being questioned by our environment, we have to show we are strong enough to deal with that.”
