Arsenal were dealt a huge blow today as it was revealed Robin Van Persie will miss the Champions League last 16 second leg clash in Barcelona.
Van Persie suffered the injury scoring for Arsenal in their 2-1 loss to Birmingham in Sundays Carling Cup final, and although he struggled on, came off in the second half.
Speaking to Arsenals TV channel, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said, “Unfortunately, we had bad news on the scan and he will be out for the next three weeks for sure.”
“It could be longer. The shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks (so) he is definitely out for Barcelona.”
Arsenal take a 2-1 lead with them to the Nou Camp, but could be without injured Fabregas, Walcott and Van Persie, in an injury situation that resembles last year’s crisis, that saw them lose 4-1 away.
There was some better news from Alex Songs scan, and he should be back for the Barcelona clash.
“Alex Song has a knee problem as well. From his scan we had good news, it is only blood from a kick on the outside of his knee. He is out for Leyton Orient and has a very small chance for Saturday. But he has a good chance for Barcelona,” Wenger said.
