As the third test looms, India the number one ranked test team face a huge battle to keep hold of that top spot.

Up to now the Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, had never led a team which had been on the losing end of two tests in a row. Dhoni who is respected amongst the worlds’ captains and for his tactical ability has been made to look average against an English side which is firing on all cylinders. With England in a hot streak of form it will take a monumental effort to dent their confidence.

India’s most successful opening pair return

Both England and India will be suffering from team changes in the third test, which will take place at Edgbaston. For India the signs are good with Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir back in the team and ready to take their positions as India’s opening pair, this return is not to be looked on lightly after all this is the Indian teams most successful opening pair in history. Zaheer Khan on the other hand looks to miss out with RP Singh as replacement.

Bopara with added incentive to perform

England however are replacing the injured Jonathan Trott with Ravi Bopara. Trott damaged his shoulder whilst diving in the field during the previous test match. Bopara will be replacing the man that took his slot in the England line-up a few years ago and therefore there is added incentive for him to perform.

Bopara who was once considered to be a promising English international batmen had lost his place to Trott and when Paul Collingwood retired Eoin Morgan had got the nod before him too. So this is a rare victory for Bopara.

“You just keep going and keep pushing yourself to do a little more” said Bopara. He then went on to say “This is a difficult side to get into now. So it’s a matter of being ready when the opportunity arises.”

Keep the series alive

With some big names back for India, they will be hoping that an embarrassing start to the series is stopped and they keep the series alive through a victory in this test.
