Former Arsenal and France International Robert Pires hopes to play for another season at Villa Park, as he wants to keep helping the clubs young players develop.
Pires was signed by former Liverpool boss, Gerard Houllier at the end of 2010 on a short term deal because of his experience.
The 37 year-old had failed to make a real difference on the pitch in early games, and there were suggestions that he had upset the dressing room harmony.
Pires was back to his best at the weekend, and was one of the best players on the pitch in his side’s 4-1 demolition of Blackburn, and will hope he has proven himself worthy of a new deal.
“I would like to stay for another season,” said Pires. “I really love Aston Villa, I love the players because it is a very good team.
“For me, every morning I need to practice my football. I hope to play games and I hope to play next season. Why not?
“I am old and I have experience, I can help these players.”
