Everton boss David Moyes has admitted he was stunned by his sides disappointing exit in the FA Cup fifth round to Reading.
After beating Champions Chelsea in the fourth round, Everton had hoped that they could see off the Championship side and book their place in the quarter finals but Reading had other ideas, winning 1-0 through a Matthew Mills goal.
Everton could not find an equaliser, and rather struggled to even put pressure on the Reading goal, leaving the competition with a wimper.
“It’s a massive disappointment for us because we did so well in the previous round,” explained Moyes.
“You can only ask for a home tie and we didn’t take advantage of it.
“We could have defended the set-piece for the goal, our attacking wasn’t good enough. I think they defended really well.
“They got back behind the ball and we didn’t have enough craft at the top of the pitch to make things happen.”
Moyes was quick to praise Readings efforts, saying: “Terrific the way they got about their job.
“The longer it went on the more desperate we became.”
