Argentinean midfielder Javier Mascherano has rubbished reports that he will leave Barcelona in the summer and move back to England with Chelsea.
The former Liverpool man left Merseyside for the Catalan club last summer for £18million and has struggled to get into a Barcelona midfield featuring Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets.
26 year-old Mascherano claims he would rather stay as a bit part player but win things in Barcelona than move away from the team.
Speaking to the People, he said, “I have heard the rumours, but I am calm about my situation.
“I have spoken to nobody because I see my present and my future at Barca, and I don’t want to leave this summer.
“It is a privilege to play some minutes in this super-squad and my mission now is to be patient, to learn and to perform at my best when opportunities come.”
Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola added his input, saying he didn’t want the defensive midfielder to leave. He said, “We have been very satisfied with Javier.”
