The greatest upset in FA Cup history could be on the cards today, as Crawley Town travel to Manchester United in the fifth round on the FA Cup.
The FA Cup in known for producing upsets, and fulfilling the dreams for the lower tier teams of English football in years gone by.
But surely Crawley Town’s dream of Beating Manchester United today is a step too far, or is it?
Crawley Town have never taken on a top flight opponent in the FA Cup, and there is no better place to start than Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are currently top of the Premier League table, and have a Champions League knockout encounter with Marseille this coming Wednesday.
Sir Alex is sure to field a weakened team against Crawley today, but expect to see enough international experience on the pitch today, to ensure United don’t face an upset similar to those of years gone by.
United were dumped out of the competition by Leeds United at Old Trafford last season, and Ferguson will not want a repeat of that today when Crawley are in town.
Michael Owen was scheduled to start for United, but the former England International will not be risked after a picking up a groin injury in training during the week.
Rio Ferdinand and Johnny Evans are also available, while Ji Sung Park and Antonia Valencia also miss out.
Ferguson may call upon the likes of; Darren Gibson, Gabriel Obertan and Portuguese striker Bebe, as he eyes some game time for his second string squad.
Scott Neilson is Crawley Town’s only absentee through injury, while Pablo Mills returns today after being rested midweek.
The FA Cup is what dreams are made of, and we may see that today.
However, expect Sir Alex Ferguson to have some firepower on the bench should Manchester United need it.
Kick-off is at 17:15.
