Manchester United are through to the next round of the FA Cup following a narrow 1-0 victory over non league Crawley Town.
Wes Brown put Manchester United 1-0 up with a header from a Darren Gibson cross from the left in the 24th minute.
However, the scoreline did not represent the game as United had not really made any chances prior to Brown’s goal.
United were not upto much after the goal and Crawley went in at half just the one goal behind, and very much remained in the game.
Alex Ferguson threw Wayne Rooney on to add a bit of flair and creativity to United, but his moved did little to change the game as Crawley were the better team in the second half.
Crawley stroked the ball around comfortably, and grew in confidence as the game went on.
Ferguson was forced to replace the two Da Silva brothers due to injury, and also withdrew Darren Gibson for Darren Fletcher, to add some steel to the midfield.
Crawley pressed and pressed to the final last minute, and were nearly rewarded in stoppage time.
Substitute Richard Brodie had a free header in the 92 minute only to see his effort strike the top of the crossbar.
United held on to claim the victory, but the day belonged the Crawley Town as they highlighted all that is good about the FA Cup.
