Liverpool turn down £35million Torres bid as star asks to leave

Liverpool yesterday rejected a £35million bid from Chelsea for their star player. The Spanish world cup winner has been growing disillusioned at life at Anfield, especially given their recent run of form.

Liverpool turned down the bid immediately, releasing a statement to say their prize asset was not for sale.

Chelsea have been trying to capture the signature of Torres for several years, and had a summer bid turned down.

Torres wanted to leave in the summer but was persuaded to stay, with the club promising renewed investment into players, which has yet to materialise.

Torres, 26, is rumoured to have asked the club to listen to the latest bid, especially given that the club have again failed to add to the squad in the latest window. The player has a £50million buyout clause in his contract, but Chelsea won’t want to bid that high.

Liverpool may now have to up their attempts to land Ajax star Suarez, in a bid to convince Torres of their ambitions going forward.

One thing is for sure, we haven’t heard the last of this one yet.

Further reports of a bid for Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina from Manchester United have also emerged this morning, leaving Liverpool fighting to keep hold of their stars.
