Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt scored yet another vital goal for Liverpool as he revealed he hoped to have some positive news regarding his contract talks soon.

The world cup finalist popped up in the 86th minute to score the only goal of a dull two legged tie and put Liverpool into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Kuyt still has another year to run on his Anfield contract, but hopes to extend his stay as long as possible.

Kuyt has played over 200 times for the Merseyside club and is hugely popular with the fans for his effort and enthusiasm.

The 30 year-old revealed things had been going well with the contract talks.

“It is already looking positive and hopefully I will have some good news in one or two weeks,” confirmed Kuyt.

Kuyt was also pleased with his goal saying, “Although we created the chances, we found it hard to score,”

“It was kind of a hard game and I felt we should have finished it off earlier.

“But at the end of the day, winning is all that counts.

“I thought it was about time for me to score a goal. It has been a while.”

Carragher was praised by manager Dalgish after breaking the British European appearance record, which now stands at 137 appearances.

“That record sums up his contribution to the football club,” said the Reds manager. “He has been a magnificent servant to this club.

“He has been here since he was 12 and for him to walk away with that record of playing more European games is a credit to him and shows the success we’ve have over the years.”
