Manchester United goalkeeper Tomas Kuszczak has called for Alex Ferguson to give him the chance to become United number one.

Edwin Van der Saar will hang up his gloves at the end of the season and leave behind a goalkeeping vacancy, and Ferguson will be looking for someone to step into the giant Dutchman’s shoes.

28 year-old Polish international, Kuszczak moved to Old Trafford in 2007, but has always been very much their substitute goalkeeper, and is hoping to make more appearances this year.

Those hopes appear to have been scuppered by the signing of Anders Lindegaard, who has been brought in to the team for United’s last two FA Cup games, and has done nothing wrong.

Talking on US TV, Kuszczak said, “Play me and I’ll prove I’m your real No.1.”

“To play well I need to play regularly. I’ve shown when I get a run my form gets better.

“Now I’m waiting for my manager’s decision.”

Edwin Van der Saar is expected to return to the team for Manchester United’s Champions League clash on Wednesday.
