The bodyguard for Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been stabbed while protecting the former Chelsea boss as he signed autographs at an airport.
Mourinho’s protector suffered injuries as a result of sharp object used against him as he dealt with an incident in an airport in Northwest Spain.
The Madrid boss was whisked away by security when it was discovered his bodyguard was wounded and bleeding.
According to Spanish reports the attacker’s intended target was Mourinho, who’s bodyguard suffered a 4cm wound.
Mourinho was unaware of the attack and was informed of the incident later in the day.
El Periodico newspaper reported: “Mourinho stopped to sign autographs in arrivals, where a large number of Madrid fans were waiting for the team.
“The bodyguard was near the manager and noticed he had been stabbed in the armpit.
“Mourinho was very worried by the incident.”
CCTV footage has been obtained by investigators who have since identified a tall man in connection with the incident.
This is not the first attempted attack on Mourinho as a plot was uncovered by Italian police to kidnapp Mourinho and his family while he was manager of Inter Milan.
