Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has returned to training after injury, and could be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Evans has been out with an ankle injury since United’s 2-1 defeat against Wolves last month, and with Vidic suspended and Ferdinand injured again, Evans return could give United a big boost ahead of their crunch clash.
Sir Alex had initially said after his team’s 4-0 win last weekend that both Ferdinand and Evans would miss the Liverpool game, but the Irish defender has improved rapidly over the week.
Vidic’s sending off against Chelsea has also ruled him out of Sunday’s game, leaving the club with just Wes Brown and Chris Smalling as fit centre backs.
With Liverpool likely to give Andy Carroll his debut against the league leaders, United will need all the fit centre backs they can get, to deal with the inevitable onslaught of high balls into their box.
