Blackburn’s latest teenage hope Phil Jones has revealed he is certain that extending his contract with the Lancashire club was the right decision.
19 year-old Jones signed an extension to his previous contract last month, that will see him stay at the club until 2016, and hopes to play for his home town club for many years to come.
The player is still recovering from a knee injury and hasn’t played a first team game since December, but strongly believes his and Blackburn’s futures are bright ones.
“I made the right decision. It’s pleasing when the manager says nice things about you and I’m happy to have signed a new contract,” he said.
“There’s a lot of young players coming through the academy and the reserves these days at Blackburn. That’s promising for the future.
“It’s very exciting. It’s exciting for everyone at the club. We’ve got a lot of talent here, we work hard and we train hard day-in day-out.
“The future is really bright.”
Jones has also been tipped as a future England under 21 captain and said of the rumours, ”You never know, I’d like to one day, but I’ll set short-term goals for now, concentrate on getting back out on the pitch and getting some game time.”
