Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the Jack Wilshere is a great player, but has laughed off suggestions that Barcelona will make a summer move for the 19-year-old.
Wilshere dominated the midfield in Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Barcelona last week, in which Arsenal take a 2-1 lead to the second leg.
Having failed in their bid to secure Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal last summer, there had been media reports suggesting that Barcelona would instead try to capture the signature of Wilshere instead.
Guardiola however, doesn’t expect that Arsene Wenger will alter his stance that his best players are not for sale.
“He (Wilshere) is a great player – a great player for Arsenal,” said the Barcelona manager.
“And in any case, (Arsenal manager) Arsene Wenger doesn’t sell his best players.”
Guardiola is looking forward to the return leg, and refused to draw anything from Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient.
“Arsenal are a wonderful side,” added Guardiola.
“You will not hear me discredit Arsenal – they are a great side with a great coach and they will be a very difficult opponent. It will be a great game against a great team.”
