Manchester City and Republic of Ireland Goalkeeper Shay Given, has been ruled out of action for three months as a result of a shoulder injury.
Given suffered the injury setback during his warm up procedures for Manchester City’s Europa League clash with Aris Salonika in Greece, and therefore was not on the bench for City’s FA Cup tie with Notts County at the weekend.
The shot stopper, who is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership, has dislocated his shoulder in the past.
Given is now expected to miss the miss the remainder of the season.
The injury also rules Given out of the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2012 clash against Macedonia.
City boss Roberto Mancini confirmed Given’s injury; “Shay has this problem in his shoulder and I think he needs three months to recover.”
“He has the same injury that he had last year and I think that he needs an operation. “I am disappointed for him because we have lost a good goalkeeper.”
The injury could mean that Given has played his last game for the club, after enduring a frustrating time at City after losing the his position in the team to Joe Hart.
