Premier League clubs are set to spend over £200million in this year’s transfer window, in a sign that money isn’t running out in British top flight football.
Last year’s January window saw less than £30million swap hands but with mega signings Torres, (£50m) Carroll, (£35m+) Luiz (£21m) and Suarez (£22.8m) this year’s figure has kept on increasing.
£35million Liverpool signing Andy Carroll will the smash the UK transfer record, and Torres expected £50million deal will smash it again.
Fans across social networking forums are amazed at the figures players are worth these days, with Andy Carroll now rated at more than David Silva of Manchester City, despite only scoring 7 premier league goals this season and being outscored in last season’s Championship by Peter Whittingham, Nicky Maynard, Gary Hooper, Michael Chopra and Liverpool target Charlie Adam.
Fernando Torres and Newcastle new boy Andy Carroll will get their first chance for their respective new clubs this weekend as Liverpool travel to Chelsea in the Premier League.
Harry Redknapp has told SkySports News that any bid for Peter Crouch from Newcastle stands no chance, and feels Newcastle will be more than happy with the money that they’ve got for their player (Carroll).
He also feels Chelsea will push Manchester United for the title now, having spent over £70million on Torres and Luiz.
Who do you think will win the title after all this money has changed hands?
