Champions League Preview: Arsenal v Barcelona

All eyes on Fabregas & Messi tonight

All eyes on Fabregas & Messi tonight

Arsenal welcome Barcelona to the Emirates tonight, in the first knockout round of the Champions League.

The spotlight will be on two players tonight; Cesc Fabregas after his ongoing transfer saga with the Spanish club, and world player of the year Lionel Messi, who has been in sensational form this season.

The two clubs meet for the second year in a row, and Arsenal will be hoping for a vast improvement following Barcelona’s demolition of Wenger’s side last year.

Arsenal are a more consistent team this time around, and they will be confident of taking the game to Barcelona.

However, Barcelona have been in scintillating form all season, scoring goals for fun and occupying the top spot in La Liga.

Arsenal welcome back Samir Nasri for tonight’s game, while Tomas Rosicky is also available, but Abou Diaby, and Bacary Sagna remain absent for Wenger’s men.

Arsenal’s man of the moment Jack Wilshere is expected to start in midfield alongside Fabregas, who will need to be on top of their games if Arsenal are to overcome Guardiola’s men.

Barcelona suffered a surprise draw against Sporting Gijon at the weekend, and Arsene Wenger will take confidence from that result ahead of the game.

Carlos Puyol is ruled out for Barcelona; otherwise Guardiola has a fully fit squad to choose from.

Expect a fast paced game with plenty of quick one touch football tonight.

Kick-off at the Emirates is 19:45.

Hopefully Nasri will be able to start the game, though Wenger is still unsure about whether he’ll play the 90 minutes.
