David Beckham will stay at Tottenham to continue his preparations for the new season in America, extending his stay until 22nd February.
Beckham originally headed to Spurs with the intention of playing on loan for a couple of months during the American off season, but a deal couldn’t be struck between the two teams.
He will now return to America a couple of days later.
In a statement, Spurs said, “David Beckham will now return to Los Angeles to report for pre-season training with LA Galaxy on 24 February.”
The deal is believed to have fallen apart as MLS team LA Galaxy wanted Beckham back by 10th February to start training with the team ahead of their opening game away in Seattle on 15th March.
“To do [a loan deal until 10 February] would be a waste of time because, by the time David got fit, it would be a couple of weeks and suddenly you’d be into February,” Redknapp said about the situation last month.
Englands most capped outfield player is desperate to play for his country again, and with his contract up in November, Redknapp has indicated he may be interested in the player again then if a deal can be struck.
Beckham has played 115 times for his country, and since leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid and then LA Galaxy, has twice come back to Europe on loan at AC Milan.
