England international Ashley Young has called for boss Gerard Houllier to stick with him as penalty taker at Aston Villa, despite missing his last penalty against Bolton.
Houllier has another option in new signing Darren Bent, who took penalties at Sunderland during his time in the North East, but Young has no intention of stepping down.
The winger, who has found a new lease of life playing just behind the striker of late has also started appearing in Fabio Capello’s plans lately, and will be hoping to star in Englands qualifier against Wales for his country.
Talking about the penalty situation, Young said, “I am a strong character. I won’t dwell on the penalty miss,”
“I have scored penalties, and I have missed some as well, but I have always bounced back from them.
“I won’t let it get me down and it won’t stop me taking another. I definitely will take another.”
