Andy Gray has been sacked by Sky Sports following his remarks about a female official during the Wolves and Liverpool match this past weekend.
In what is proving to be a very dramatic and unpredictable season, no one would have predicted that Andy Gray would not be in his broadcast seat for many years to come.
The move from Sky comes, after Gray and fellow broadcaster Richard Keys were recorded off- air making comments regarding a female official.
The pair, unaware that they were being recorded, were heard making sexist remarks such as; “A female linesman, can you believe it”, and were immediately suspended from their positions by Sky.
The pair were scheduled to broadcast Monday Night Football as per usual, but the long time partners were not to be seen in their known postitions.
The leaked comments by the pair on the internet have sparked outrage from many involved n the game.
Kenny Dalglish issued a slight dig at Sky when he asked at a news conference; “There is a lady here, is that ok with Sky”.
Dalglish’s daughter also had a say on the matter when she posted on her Twitter account; “Am exhausted, just learnt the offside rule”.
The move will come as a shock to many, as a lot of people will have expected the pair to be fined and suspended, but surely to return to their position in the near future.
The move from Sky shows just how the severe the effect the comments made by the pair have had on their reputation.
Expect plenty more reaction to come from this breaking story, but for the moment try to digest that the words; “take a bow son”, may never be heard in a flamboyant Scottish accent again on Sky Sports.
What are your thoughts , should Sky have sacked Gray ? Will Richard Keys follow suit ?
Let us know.
