Research has shown that those living in London and the south of the UK fare better at saving than residents of nothern regions, with people in the South East having an average savings balance of £6,653.
The study, based on account balances held by Halifax customers in February this year, reveals that residents in London, the South East, South West and East Anglia all have savings pots higher than the national average.
Richmond Upon Thames had the highest overall savings level, with residents having an average savings pot of nearly £30,000. Other areas with impressive savings balances include the EH12 6 area of Edinburgh, and Stanmore in North London, where people also boast a nest egg of over £20,000.
Of the top 50 best saving postcode areas, 19 are located in London, while 12 are in the South East. No regions in the North, West Midlands, East Anglia, Wales or Northern Ireland made the top 50 cut.
