Supermarkets are set to open consumer legal services in England and Wales due to a new change in law. The government’s new Legal Services Act will potentially give more choice and value for the public, many of whom might not be able to afford a solicitor. In addition, law firms will gain investment and will be able to explore a new market.
The NHS changes will case damage to the system in the UK, according to a letter from leading public health officials and doctors. A letter to peers who will hold a debate about the reform next week, nearly 400 experts in public health called for a rejection of the changes as the risk to both patent care and safety was too high.
George Osborne has revealed proposals to freeze council tax in England, paid for by an “underspend” in Whitehall. This is for another year, in 2012-2013, and will help struggling families. While the government cannot force councils to make the freeze, it will be offering those that limit spending increases to 2.5% or less, money that they will need.
