One think tank has reported the state pension needs to rise to 72 by 2030 to manage those that are living longer and staying active longer. The proportion of people’s lives in which they received the benefit already equaled 30 by the year 1981. And it is certain to go higher.

The opportunity to retire and enjoy life on a fat pension is not a common reality anymore. Some are having to cut their retirement short. In the last quarter 40,000 workers aged 65 or older joined the work force. The total number of workers in that age group has grown to a record high of 823,000.

BBC Seeking to Ease Staff Pension Concerns

Senior BBC executives are trying to “play nice” with staff who have been enraged by the cuts to their pensions. Things got worse when news came out that executives were not having to face the same pension cap of 1 per cent a year. Broadcast unions have called BBC’s pension plan changes as “pension robbery.”
