Thousands of anti-government protesters have once again brought Thailand’s capital to a standstill, as they seek to unseat a leadership — led by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva — they say is illegitimate and undemocratic.
They support Thaksin Shinawatra, who was prime minister from 2001 to 2006. But Shinawatra was ousted in a bloodless coup in 2006 – again the country was in political turmoil.
He played an important role in politics in the region even after he was overthrown and it looks like he is playing a part in the country’s matters again. We’ll see how things go but it’s nice to see things calming down a little bit.
