August 12th 2011 has seen the launch of a new never before seen social media campaign called ‘I’m Gonna Be Your Friend’. The campaign has been supported strongly by 150 of the world’s most famous people in entertainment and their groups of fans with numbers still growing.
Disastrous Food Crisis
The campaign was started to provide help for the Save the Children’s appeal, raising funds for the disastrous food crisis which has directly affected many millions of families, people and children across the East African region.
700 million people can watch through Facebook and Twitter a short film on the crisis in East Africa which was created by talented director Kevin MacDonald from the footage of East Africa. The short film is finished off with the 1973 Bob Marley & The Wailers song ‘High Tide or Low Tide’ which the film is set too. The film is predicted to reach over a billion people across the world.
The campaign is bringing together the resources of Universal Music Group, Yahoo, Facebook, AOL, MSN, YouTude, Twitter to name a few to provide the global online platform to reach the massive numbers across the world through editorial coverage, by pushing the film and releasing a downloadable track on the day of the launch.
The food crisis being witnessed in Somalia and East Africa is the worst seen for many decades with 10 million people affected. A staggering 1 million children are facing starvation and death if action is not taken immediately.
Anyone can help with raising the money
Anyone can help with raising the money required for food, water and medicine. The song and film will be available for download through iTunes, from www.imgonnabeyourfriend.org or via Bob Marley’s Facebook page Bob Marley | Facebook for 99p. There will be click-through links on the Facebook page for direct donations to Save the Children’s East Africa appeal.
The Bob Marley track was chosen by the family of Bob Marley because of the power of the lyrics ‘I’m Gonna Be Your Friend’.
“Not one child should be denied food nor water. Not one child should suffer. We must stand up together as friends to put a stop to this, to feed our children and to save their lives.”
