Jacqui Smith has opened up about the porn scandal that ended her career in a new radio documentary ‘Porn Again’.

The former home secretary put forward that her expenses were scrutinised because she was a woman, a recent interview with Radio Times found.

Suggesting that her expenses were examined primarily because, as a woman she naturally should be devoting more time to looking after her family, the former MP was embarrassed by the uncovering of her expenses two years ago.

Smith resigned as the first female home secretary and took up a back bench position instead, until she lost her seat in the May 2010 general election.

It was rumoured that it was in fact her son that had been watching the pornographic films that were claimed for on her expenses, but Smith dismissed these rumours as untrue.

The expenses claims came from her husband, Richard Timney who also ran her constituency office.

Controversially Jacqui Smith has created a documentary, ‘Porn Again’ for BBC Radio 5 live looking at pornography in Britain.

Discussing her findings, Smith opens up on 5 live Breakfast: “Me, and a lot of other people, don’t know much about it.”

“For purposes of research I did watch the sort of pornography that’s available on the internet,” Smith tells Nicky Campbell.

“One of the most interesting things… the people that work in the industry, I liked them more than I thought I would.”
