The Royal Family will share historical and personal photos on Flickr.

Buckingham Palace launched a Twitter account last year.  This year they’ve opened a Flickr account.  The monarchy is definitely embracing new technology and social media and the public benefits.  The Flickr account will give the world access into the Royal family’s personal life and history.

So far 600 photos have been loaded to the account.  From early prictures of Queen Victoria and baby pictures of Prince Charles to current photos of Prince Harry on patrol in Afghanistan.

The site will include recent photographs as well as historical ones.

The Flickr account is a collaboration between Buckingham Palace, St James’ Palace, and Clarence House and is the latest attempt by the Royal Family to embrace the power of new technology and social media to connect with the public.

In 2007 the Royal Family channel was opened on You Tube.  The Twitter account @BritishMonarchy was opened in 2009.  The new Flickr account can be accessed through www.flickr.com/photos/britishmonarchy.
