Yorkshire Building Society in merger talks

Yorkshire Building Society have announced that they have commenced merger talks with Norwich and Peterborough Building Society.

Yorkshire, who are based in Bradford, are the second largest building society in the UK and boast over two and a half million members.

The society have assets worth £30million.

Yorkshire are not new to mergers, having already merged with both the Chelsea Building Society, and the Barnsley Building Society.

In a statement released yesterday they said, “Yorkshire has consistently said that it would consider mergers with smaller societies if these can be completed on a basis that would be in the long term interests of its current and future members.”

The number of building societies has dropped dramatically of late, with many merging and then becoming banks instead.
