Strong winds have knocked over a lorry on the M60 near the Trafford Centre, causing Police to close the road in both directions.
The gale force winds are causing motorists to be urged not to use part of the motorway for safety reasons.
The road was closed between junctions nine and eleven after a lorry blew over on Barton Bridge, and police shut both sides of the road to prevent a repeat incident.
The Met Office did warn that gusts of 55mph would be likely to hit the area on Monday, and that Barton Bridge would be exposed.
A spokesman for the Met Office added at the time that, ‘strong south-westerly winds would increase to gale force across many parts of the region, but die down later in the afternoon.’
At Manchester Airport a lamppost was blown down on to a bus stop, but nobody is thought to have been injured.
The lorry driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries to his shoulder.
