A British soldier left an emotional proposal to his pregnant girlfriend on the wrong answer phone it has been revealed.
The message, which lasts nearly a minute and a half, has the soldier declaring his love for a girl called Samantha back home in England and asks her to marry him.
“I love you so much, I love you with all my heart and I was going to ask you… don’t answer… obviously you can’t answer. But, will you marry me?”
He also talks about the fact his girlfriend is about to give birth to his first child, and in heart breaking fashion says he will be home in three months and will try calling again next month.
Unfortunately for the soldier, he actually called Diane Potts, a mother of three, from Gateshead. She returned home from work to find the message on her answering machine.
Diane, 44, told Sky News, “I just felt really quite emotional when I heard it.
“It was just so lovely. I got a bit of a shock actually. I felt like I shouldn’t really be listening, it was such a personal message so I just had to do something about it.
“I emailed the media to see if anybody could pick it up and do something about.
“He had a regional accent but we’re not sure if he lives up here so it’s great to get coverage and find her.
“We just really want to find her.”
She explained that the caller had a Sunderland accent, so can’t have got the number too wrong and did not sound much older than 18.
