FBI Uncovers Spies Using Footage

The secret unsuspecting brush past, dead drops and secret electronic messages where all picked up by the FBI and the footage they had recorded of spies in their country. It has just been released that photos, videos and papers provided many more details into the FBI’s ten-year investigation into a ring which was gaining in strength of Russian sleeper agents.

American Society

The U.S. has revealed that these agents were trying to make their way into American society and learn the secrets from the people in the countries upper levels, those men and women in power.

The FBI operation was called ‘Operation Ghost Stories’ due in part to the fact that 6 of the 10 agents had assumed the identities of dead people. These agents, whom the U.S. sent to Russian in July 2010 in the largest spy swap since the Cold War, have not been accused of stealing any information or U.S. secrets but they are far more dangerous than first believed.

It has been said that these agents are the very best trained Russian intelligence agents and they were sent so that they could blend in  and befriend American policymakers. It seemed their plans were working, several of these men and women were getting closer to high-ranking influential officials. With one of these agents  finding work for  confidant of a U.S. Cabinet member.

One of the female agents, Cynthia Murphy of Montclair, N.J. had been providing financial planning for Alen Patricof, a New York venture capitalist. He was the finance chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign.

These agents were being called ‘illegals’, simply because they were not operating out of Russian embassies or military missions. Instead they were so well fitted into society, with all living normal lives in the U.S.

Ten years

One of the spies, Donald Heathfield of Cambridge, attended Harvard University’s John F Kennedy School of Government. This is where people get trained, including senior government officials. Heathfield has been reported as stealing the identity of a Canadian infant who had died many decades ago and then went on to graduate from the top American and international university.

For ten whole years the FBI sat watching the Russian network, and after seeing and recording enough it was decided that it was time to put an end efforts.

“We had seen enough of the reporting going back to Moscow Center to trouble us” said C. Frank Figliuzzi, FBI director for counterintelligence, and a classmate of one of the agent.
