James Julian, the chief executive of Lockton Companies International Ltd has been elected as CII’s 115th president, the Chartered Insurance Institute announced at their annual general meeting in London on July 22.
The general manager of Allianz UK, Chris Hanks, has been presiding over the board of CII and is expected to hand over charges to Mr. Julian said.
“It’s a great honour to take the presidency of the CII and I am fortunate that my year in office coincides with the centenary of the CII receiving its Royal Charter,” said Mr. Julian.
“I would particularly like to pay tribute to Chris Hanks and all that he has achieved in the last year. I hope that in my year as President I uphold the strong and respected traditions of the CII,” he added.
Mr. Julian chose to pursue the theme “the best talent” in the insurance industry as the theme during his stay in the office, a tradition followed by presidents, confirmed a CII spokesperson.
The “The Next Generation of Talent” is the name of Mr. Julian’s theme.
“Attracting the best talent to our sector is vital to ensuring the future growth of our profession,” said Mr. Julian while explaining.
“All that we achieve is only possible because of the hard work and commitment of those members who believe excellence is the benchmark by which our profession should be judged,” chipped in CII chief executive Dr. Alexander Scott.
CII’s presidents get elected by “progression” and traditionally the board elevates the deputy president to the president’s post the following year.
“It has never happened before where a deputy president has not been elected president,” said a CII spokesperson.
The chief executive of AXA Commercial, Ms Amanda Blanc has been elected the new deputy president.
