A three month old baby was knocked to the ground in Bolton during a mugging when his pram was pushed over. The boy was strapped into the pram and luckily avoided any injury. The incident took place in a park as the boy’s mum and grandmother took him for a walk, before being attacked by masked muggers who stole bags the pair were carrying. Police have released CCTV footage of the horrifying attack in the hope that people will come forward who can identify the muggers.
The muggers have been described as being in their late teens or early 20s. The boy’s mother, aged 33, was carrying shopping bags and his grandmother pushed the pram through the park. As they walked two male attackers ran behind them before punching the 56 year old grandmother in the back of the head. As she screamed and fell over, the pram was knocked onto its side and the two men grabbed her handbag. Police say the robbery took place on October 15 around 4pm in Bobby Heywood’s Park in Greater Lever. The two men are both described as being white, thin, aged around late teens and bout 6ft 2in.
The police have launched an appeal for any information that could help them identify the attackers. Detective Inspector Stuart Wilkinson said: “These were the actions of two desperate individuals who had no regard whatsoever for these two women or the young baby they were with. As you can see from the CCTV, it is lucky that the baby was strapped into the pram and wasn’t injured during this robbery. It was late afternoon and there would have been people out and about at this time. If you saw anyone running away from the area, or if you saw two men hanging around this area that fit the descriptions given, please give us a call.”
