A radio station in American claims to have uncovered the sec ret ingredient that gives Coca Cola its unique taste.
The most guarded recipe in soft drinks history is allegedly kept in a 24 hour guarded vault in Arizona.
The recipe was created by medicinal pharmacist, John Pemberton, in 1886 and has been kept a secret ever since.
Until now that is, as thisamericanlife.org claim to have uncovered a list of ingredients and their exact quantities.
They claim to have got the recipe off a photo from 1979 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which shows someone holding open a book with a recipe, which is supposed to be an exact copy of Pemberton’s.

The recipe shows the different ingredients required to create the Merchandise 7Z, Coca Colas secret ingredient.
The ingredient only makes up one percent of the drinks total content, but is believed to hold the secret to Cokes unique taste.

- Fluid extract of Coca 3 drams USP
- Citric acid 3 oz
- Caffeine 1oz
- Sugar 30 (it is unclear from the markings what quantity is required)
- Water 2.5 gal
- Lime juice 2 pints 1 qrt
- Vanilla 1oz
- Caramel 1.5oz or more to colour
- 7X flavour (use 2oz of flavour to 5 gals syrup):
- Alcohol 8oz
- Orange oil 20 drops
- Lemon oil 30 drops
- Nutmeg oil 10 drops
- Coriander 5 drops
- Neroli 10 drops
- Cinnamon 10 drops
