A record visit by holiday shoppers saw Bluewater Shopping and Leisure Centre post its highest ever annual footfalls of 28.1 million in 2010.
The Kent based mall said it witnessed almost a million visitors during the week starting 26th December. December 27 was the busiest day in the history of the store when it had to attend 194,000 visitors, it said in a statement.
Attributing sales to the heavy snowfall leading to Christmas and the subsequent discounts, the statement said: “Pre-Christmas, the snow created pent-up demand that ultimately drove very high levels of footfall in the final shopping days”.
Bluewater General Manager Andrew Parkinson added: “From Boxing Day onwards, the nature of shopping changed. The pressure to purchase for others was lifted and so guests visited Bluewater en masse to indulge themselves in the sales”.
