The White Stripes have finally broken up after months of will they, won’t they speculation surrounding the duo
The group, who consisted of husband and wife pairing, Jack and Meg White, have split up to preserve their acheivements, and for a “myriad of reasons.”
The split will dissapoint fans, who fell in love with the band because of hit’s like, ‘Fell in Love With A Girl’ and ‘Seven NationArmy’.
The band were originally from Detroit and spent a long time as an underground act in the states before finally breaking through the other side of the Atlantic here in the UK.
Lead singer and guitarist Jack White is now married to British model, Karen Edson, having previously been married to Meg, although the band pretended to be brother and sister in their early days.
Their biggest selling album came in 2003 with Elephant, and their blues-rock sounds never featured a bass guitar, with just Megs drums and Jacks six string.
Later in their careers they added a piano and marimba to give the sound more depth.
The band had many strange rules indluding a strict code about how they dress , only waering red, white and black in photos.
When announcing that they were splitting up, they said they “will make no further new recordings or perform live”, and that the main reason to break up was to, “preserve what is beautiful and special about the band”.
