The Michael Jackson Estate and Sony Music are set to release two new singles from the posthumous Michael Jackson album, MICHAEL.
In the coming weeks, the tracks titled; Hollywood Tonight and Behind the Mask will be released from the the global hit album.
Behind the mask is set to be released as the radio single in countries including; France, Japan, Canada and the United States.
Hollywood Tonight is going to be the single released to radio for the rest of the world, while the videos for both songs are set to be released worldwide.
The two tracks set for release; Hollywood Tonight and Behind the Mask, are critical and fan favourites from the album MICHAEL, a collection of tracks Jackson had worked on before he died.
The album is made up of tracks Jackson was working on for future release, combined with vintage work he had already completed and had also planned to use.
Author Joe Vogel, who is currently working on a book dedicated to the singer titled; Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson, wrote that; “Posthumous works are notoriously tricky…This, ultimately, is the most important quality of Michael: it feels like Michael.”
Behind the Mask has been praised by critics, with some claiming the track infuses the spirit of Michael Jackson’s music of years gone by. Rolling Stone magazine described it as; “a fiercely funky cousin to Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.’’
The Hollywood Tonight track has been described by USA Today as; “pulsating with Billie Jean-esque energy”. The track was written by Michael in 2001 during his ‘Invincible’ album area. However, Jackson pulled the song from the album, before resurecting it it from his priceless vault in 2007 and editing it for future release.
In December, chat show host Ellen DeGeneres was given the song by the MJ estate to debut on her show, to which she and her audience danced to live on American television.
Upon its release in December, the MICHAEL album was a global hit worldwide, selling over three million units, making it one of the best selling albums around the world in 2010.
The contuing success of the album, which is expected to grow after the release of the next two tracks, highlights the influence Jackson still possesses on his fans, upholding his staus as a global superstar and icon.
The MICHAEL album is currently platinum in 17 countries around the world.
In his living years, Jackson sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide, including 13 number one singles and the all-time bestselling album Thriller, which has sold over 100 million copies to date.
