Legendary Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore has died aged 58. Arguably one of the greatest musicians of his generation, Belfast born Gary was a jazz, hard rock and blues performer.
The star was found dead in his hotel room in the Costa Del Sol in the early hours of Sunday morning, and others were quick to pay tribute to the musician.
Thin Lizzy founding member and friend Brian Downey paid tribute, saying, “I am in total shock. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just cannot believe he is gone,”
Downey added: “I have known Gary since 1967 when he was in Platform Three and he’s been an amazing friend ever since.
“It was a pleasure to play with Gary again in 2006 after his days with Lizzy.
“He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and i just can’t believe he is gone.”
The official Thin Lizzy Facebook site released a statement saying: “It is with great sadness we hear of the passing of Gary Moore.
“Our thoughts go out to Gary’s family at this time and our memories of Gary and his contribution to Thin Lizzy and music in general will live on forever.”
Moore also enjoyed a solo career that saw him collaborate with stars such as BB King, Albert King and Greg Lake.
