Last night’s launch of the new series of Dancing On Ice saw its highest number of viewers tuning in since the opening series in 2006.
The first two-hour instalment of the show aired on ITV1 at 6.30pm on Sunday, bringing in an average of an astounding 9.3 million viewers; a 34% share on ITV1.
The TV competition which features sixteen celebrities, including Kerry Katona, Craig McLachlan and Vanilla Ice, saw a peak audience of 10.7 million, up 500,000 on last year’s opening.
The 2010 series, which featured Sharron Davies, Bobby Davro and Tana Ramsay, began with an audience of 8.9 million, while the 2008 series drew 8.4 million viewers.
The most popular launch episode remains as the opening series in 2006, featuring John Barrowman, David Seaman and winner Gaynor Faye; watched by 9.5 million viewers.
The return of the contestants at 9.30pm during Dancing On Ice: The Skate off saw ex-newsreader Angela Rippon and former EastEnders actress Nadir Sawalha skating their way out of the show. The eviction was watched by a peak of 8.1 million and an average of 7.4 million between 9.30pm and 10.15.pm.
