Simon Cowellless American Idol a huge success

American Idol

American Idol returned to TVs across America last night without show creator Simon Cowell. Also gone are Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres as the show has been revamped.

The only judge to survive the cull was Randy Jackson, who has been joined by Aerosmith legend, Steven Tyler and American superstar Jenifer Lopez or J-Lo as she’s better known in the music industry.

The shows first episode was a two hour long special and set a very different tone to the past. Choosing to focus on the positive aspects of performances, the show had a very different feel, although the sob stories banned by last year’s X Factor remained.

The first three acts from the New Jersey auditions all made it through, gaining a place in Hollywood. The first time J-Lo had to reject a contestant seemed to kill her, as she asked, “Why did I sign up to this? I want to go home.”

But what would the X Factor be like here without Cowell? We’re going to get a taste with Britiains Got Talent, which will not include Cowell until the semi final stage. Will the shows work without him, or is Simon the million dollar draw?
