Comic Russell Brand had to pull out of the comedy awards last night after a friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The star, who is close friends with host Jonathan Ross, was supposed to fly in from New York to collect a prize for contribution to comedy but had to pull out at the last minute.
Brand, 35, had to call producers and tell them he couldn’t make it as he didn’t think it would be right with his friend so ill. Jonathan Ross described him as an amazing friend on Twitter.
The show had planned to reunite Ross and Brand for the first time on air since their famous Sachsgate scandal on Radio 2.
As they say on showbiz, the show must go on, and so it did.
