Upon his arrival to Japan this past weekend to see his wife Katy Perry while she is on tour, Russell Brand was denied entry.
Japanese customs officials denied Brand entry because of his previous criminal history from over 10 years ago.
Reacting immediately to the news, Katy Perry tweeted: “So … my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place.”
Brand does have a shady past with the law, battling drug and alcohol addiction, being arrested multiple times, and recently allegedly attacking the paparazzi at a Los Angeles airport in 2010.
Brand took the situation lightly, joking on Twitter at the time of deportation, “Planning escape from Japanese custody. It’s bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick.” He also took a photo of himself in a drab room with a clock on the wall.
He followed on by tweeting, “Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled.”
