Portal 2 has been awarded the top prize at the 29th Golden Joystick Video Game Awards. The awards are the pinnacle of achievement in the video games industry with the best titles being celebrated. These included popular titles in all genres and all platforms and all consoles being given the recognition they deserve and this included the growing number of mobile phone games like the successful ‘Angry Birds’.
Ultimate Game of the Year
The game which was created by Valve picked up the prize of ‘Ultimate Game of the Year in association with Alienware’. The game came out in front of other hugely popular titles such as LA Noire, Call of Duty and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
It has been said that Valve’s first-person puzzle-physics platformer, was the best thing sinced sliced bread to hit computer consoles and computers this year.
The growing success of the games industry and the Golden Joystick Awards was highlighted by the number of people who voted. The Award show broke a Guinness record by having 2.06 million users vote on the winners.
There was some obvious titles that further forged their positions as top games after many years. ‘World of Warcraft’ the giant PC game which has a huge following was awarded ‘Best MMO’, Mortal Kombat picked up ‘Best Fighting Game’ while in the sports category ‘FIFA 11’ came out at the top in the sports category.
Sonic The Hedgehog
The awards were launched in 1982 when video games where just starting to make their wave, and this year they gave the Outstanding Contribution award to Sonic The Hedgehog, the infamous character made famous by Sega.
