Piers Morgan is to open his new show with an hour long interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Filling a slot once held by Larry King and due to launch on January 17, will Piers make it or break it in America with his new show?
The former Daily Mirror editor is optimistic about his upcoming show and is said to be looking forward to a bit of competition, ‘I’m looking forward to the scrap’.
Confident his show is going to be a hit; giving Oprah a debut slot, Piers said he has prepared by interviewing Oprah in California earlier this week.
2010 saw a bad year for CNN losing out to popular rivals, Fox News Channel and MSNBC but the broadcasters are hoping to strike gold with the addition of Piers.
Jon Klein, president on CNN said: “Piers has made his name posing tough questions to public figures, holding them accountable for their words and deeds”
“He is able to look at all aspects of the news with style and humor with an occasional good laugh in the process.
“He is a natural fit with Anderson Cooper, Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker in our prime time line-up, and the ideal choice to update the storied tradition of newsmaker talk on CNN.”
However confident Piers and CNN may be, the 45-year-old Americas Got Talent judge said his show would run a combination of live and taped interviews, but interestingly he is more inclined to the taped shows.
The show will be broadcast in the UK on January 18, let’s see if America has got talent with the signing of Piers, or will he be sent packing back to the UK?
