Pop Singer Nelly Furtado has announced that she plans to give the entire $1million (£615,000) fee she was paid to perform for the family of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, to charity.

The Libyan leader paid the star the huge fee to play for himself and family members at a gig in Italy in 2007.

Gaddafi has been attacked from all quarters in recent times, after using violence to quell an uprising against his rule in Libya, which diplomats estimate his killed over 2,000.

Nelly, who is Canadian, shot to fame with hits “I’m Like a Bird” and “Promiscuous” and turned to popular social networking site, Twitter to announce her plans.

She tweeted, “In 2007, I received 1 million$ from the Qaddafi clan to perform a 45 min. Show for guests at a hotel in Italy,” adding,”I am going to donate the $”

Nelly Furtado’s spokeperson was unavailable as we tried to find out which charity would receive the donation, but the star, who has also worked in films, will win many fans with the move.
