Strictly Come Dancing star and Countryfile presenter Matt Baker has been named as the new host of The One Show.

The BBC show was previously hosted by Jason Manford, who left in November after exchanging illicit messages with fans on twitter.

Matt Baker, who won two Baftas while presenting Blue Peter, will join Alex Jones to host the show every evening on BBC One. Baker, who is married with three children is said to be over the moon.

“The BBC has made everything possible for me so I can also continue presenting Countryfile,” said Baker.

“It’s the ideal combination for me and I can’t wait to get started.”

The star will continue to present Countryfile, and has already worked on the One Show in the past, both between presenters and stranding in for them.

The presenter will start on Valentine’s Day, giving him time to finish his appearances on the Strictly Come Dancing tour, after he came second in the show last year.

The pair could bring the success back to the show, once enjoyed by Adrian Childs and Christine Bleakley, who now host Daybreak on ITV.
