GMTVs Emma Crosby is being lined up to replace Natasha Kaplinsky on Five news after being dropped from GMTV when the show was replaced by daybreak last year.

Crosby, 33, will take over anchoring the seven o’clock bulletin every evening. She joins the Five news team on Monday 14th February.

Matt Barbet, a friend of Crosby’s from university will front the five o’clock show.

“Channel Five News have always enjoyed the reputation of offering viewers something a little bit different and I am over the moon to be part of that,” Crosby said.

Five’s news editor David Kermode said, “I’m thrilled we have signed two of the brightest talents in the business to front our news programmes.”

Kaplinsky left the show at the end of last year, by mutual consent. The former BBC newsreader had just a year earlier joined Five and become one of the best paid newsreaders in the world, signing a £1million deal.
